2025 Production and Sales Report of the Four Major Mining Companies Released, Copper Resource Competition Intensifies
As a core raw material in the fields of artificial intelligence, power grid, new energy, and so on, copper has become a contested resource in the strategic layout of mining enterprises. Recently, the 2025 production and sales reports of the four major mining companies have been released. Among them, all three major copper producers have achieved year-on-year growth in production. As the world's largest copper mining company, BHP remains firmly in the top position. By 2025, BHP's copper production will reach 2.014 million tons, an increase of approximately 2.9% year-on-year. Thanks to the stable operation of projects such as Escondida in South America, BHP has further raised its copper production guidance range for the 2026 fiscal year to 1.9-2 million tons. Vale has also made breakthroughs in the copper business. In 2025, its copper production was 382,400 tons, a year-on-year increase of 9.8%, reaching a new high since 2018. Another leading mining company, Rio Tinto, has shown an impressive growth rate in copper production. Driven by successful production increases at the Oyu Tolgoi mine, Rio Tinto's copper production in 2025 was 883,000 tons, an 11% increase year-on-year, surpassing the guidance target for that year of 860,000-875,000 tons. The underground development project at the mine is now complete. In 2026, Rio Tinto's target for combined copper production is 800,000-870,000 tons. Fording River, one of the four major mining companies, has not yet produced copper. However, it is actively increasing its copper mining production.
