Former Hong Kong Chief Secretary Anson Chan passed away, was once involved in the "Hong Kong Century Corruption Case".
According to reports from Hong Kong media such as Sing Tao Daily, former Hong Kong government principal official Rafael Hui, who was involved in the "Hong Kong Century Corruption Case," passed away today due to illness at the age of 77. As reported by People's Daily and Overseas Chinese Network in the past, in December 2014, Hui was accused of five charges, including misconduct in public office, conspiracy to offer advantages to public officials, and conspiracy in public officials' misconduct. He was found guilty, sentenced to 7 and a half years in prison, and ordered to repay HK$11.82 million to the government. High Court judge Andrew Ma said that during sentencing, full consideration was given to the various pleas for leniency and Hui's significant contributions to Hong Kong. It was reported that the most influential plea came from former Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang. Hui was accused of accepting over HK$40 million in benefits during his time in public office from 2000 to 2009, allegedly favoring New World Development and its subsidiaries.
