According to CCTV news, on January 31st local time, the largest party bloc in the Iraqi National Parliament, the "Coordination Framework Alliance," issued a statement reaffirming its support for nominating former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki as a candidate for prime minister. The statement emphasized that the selection of the Iraqi prime minister is an internal matter as stipulated by the Iraqi constitution, and should be promoted according to relevant political processes and mechanisms, fully in line with national interests, and rejecting any form of external interference. The Iraqi National Parliament previously stated that a meeting will be held on February 1st to vote for the new Iraqi president. According to the procedure, the new president will appoint the candidate put forward by the largest party bloc in the Iraqi National Parliament as the new prime minister and nominate cabinet members within 30 days.
