Technological breakthroughs combined with policy incentives have brought attention to the nuclear fusion industry.
According to Securities Times, China's industrialization of nuclear fusion energy has entered a new stage of substantial and systematic industry collaboration. On January 16, at the 2026 Nuclear Fusion Energy Science and Industry Conference, the Energy Research Institute of Hefei National Comprehensive Science Center signed a series of cooperation agreements with several leading enterprises and research institutions in the industry chain, announcing the establishment of multiple joint laboratories focusing on key technologies in nuclear fusion. This includes the Advanced Filter Joint Laboratory, Fusion High-end Metal Materials R&D Joint Laboratory, High Multiplication Rate Energy Storage Devices and High Performance Equipment Joint Laboratory, and Nuclear Fusion Electric Vacuum Equipment Development Joint Laboratory. Controlled nuclear fusion industry has been elevated to a national strategic level. The "15th Five-Year Plan" proposal suggests, "proactively laying out future industries and promoting hydrogen energy and nuclear fusion energy to become new economic growth points." China's first foundational law in the nuclear energy field, the "People's Republic of China Atomic Energy Law", officially came into effect on January 15 this year, which explicitly encourages and supports scientific research and technological development in controlled thermonuclear fusion.
