New Zealand foreign minister criticizes the country's central bank governor for making a statement in support of Powell.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters criticized the country's new central bank governor, Anna Breman, for getting involved in US domestic politics. Prior to this, Breman and other global central bank governors signed a statement expressing support for Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Peters wrote on X, "The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has no role in US domestic politics and should not be involved. We remind the governor to stay in her New Zealand lane and focus on domestic monetary policy." He also added that if the governor seeks advice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade would provide the same advice, but she did not do so.
