CDC: The current positive rate of respiratory syncytial virus testing is on the rise.
According to Xinhua News Agency, researcher Xin Li from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated at a press conference held by the National Health Commission on January 13 that according to data from the national sentinel surveillance of acute respiratory infectious diseases, the overall positive rate of respiratory syncytial virus detection in China is on the rise. The positive rate of detection in northern provinces is significantly higher than in southern provinces, and the positive rate is higher in the 0-4 age group. Overall, the positive rate of respiratory syncytial virus detection is lower than that of influenza virus. Xin Li said that respiratory syncytial virus is one of the main pathogens causing acute respiratory infections, and people of all ages are susceptible to it. However, infants, children with special health conditions, and the elderly often have more severe illness, leading to complications like bronchiolitis and pneumonia. It is explained that respiratory syncytial virus is mainly spread through respiratory droplets and close contact, as well as through contact with objects contaminated with the virus. The peak season for outbreaks in northern China is winter and spring, while in some southern regions, the peak season may be in winter, spring, or the wet rainy season. Experts remind that currently there is no vaccine for respiratory syncytial virus, so strengthening protection is an important means of preventing infection.
