Turkey's ruling party: Iran issue "should be resolved by the Iranian government itself"
The spokesperson for Turkey's ruling party, the Justice and Development Party (AKP), mer elik, said on the 12th that Iran's internal issues should be resolved by the Iranian government itself. Turkish President and AKP chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoan chaired a meeting of the party's executive committee in the capital, Ankara, on that day. After the meeting, elik said at a press conference, "Foreign intervention will lead to worse consequences." He stated that Turkey is closely monitoring the developments in Iran, saying "We do not want any chaos in our neighbor Iran", and that the Turkey-Iran border is currently at the highest security alert level.
In recent times, there have been protests in many parts of Iran against rising prices and currency devaluation, leading to riots and casualties among both security personnel and citizens. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said on the 12th that Iranian security forces have brought the situation under control nationwide, and that Israel and the United States bear "direct responsibility" for the events in Iran.
