On the evening of January 11th, local time, President Trump, aboard Air Force One, on his way back to Washington, told accompanying media that he may "block ExxonMobil from investing in Venezuela." Prior to this, ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods had said in a White House meeting that Venezuela was "not investable." Woods, during a White House meeting on January 9th with other oil industry executives, told Trump that Venezuela "needs to change its laws to become an attractive investment opportunity." This statement dealt a blow to Trump's efforts to persuade U.S. oil companies to invest billions of dollars in Venezuela. ExxonMobil did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
