The U.S. Department of Commerce announced on Wednesday that it has approved the export of advanced artificial intelligence chips to two companies in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, equivalent to 35,000 Nvidia Blackwell chips. These two companies are the state-owned artificial intelligence company G42 based in Abu Dhabi and the Saudi government-supported artificial intelligence enterprise Humain. The Department of Commerce said in a statement: "Both companies have been approved to purchase the equivalent of up to 35,000 Nvidia Blackwell chips. The total of 35,000 Blackwell chips is estimated to be worth $1 billion, but prices vary. The U.S. Department of Commerce stated: "The approved conditions are that both companies must meet strict security and reporting requirements." Earlier that day, the Saudi government-supported artificial intelligence company HUMAIN announced plans to purchase 600,000 Nvidia artificial intelligence chips.
