The results of the second Qinghai-Tibet Plateau scientific expedition have been applied to more than 30 major projects in Tibet.
The Second Qinghai-Tibet Plateau scientific expedition achievement integration and application conference was held in Lhasa from November 19 to 20, 2025. Since the implementation of the Second Qinghai-Tibet Plateau scientific expedition on August 19, 2017, more than 3,000 scientific expedition teams and over 30,000 individuals have conducted comprehensive scientific expeditions covering the entire Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, producing world-class original results. Zou Zhenyu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Science and Technology Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region, stated that the Second Qinghai-Tibet Plateau scientific expedition has accumulated a large amount of scientific data in areas such as the Asian water tower, plateau climate patterns, multi-layered three-dimensional observations, water resource regulation, biodiversity, carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and has achieved 6 major new discoveries in basic research, deepening the understanding of the water, ecology, and human activities on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It has also improved the level of basic research in Earth system science on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, laying a solid foundation for further deepening research in related fields and providing a reference for scientific research paradigm. Based on the scientific expedition achievements, Tibet has produced over 50 decision-making consultation reports, the scientific expedition achievements have been reflected in more than 20 planning and design projects, and have been applied to more than 30 major projects such as carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and typical disaster risk prevention and control.
