The United States said it does not rule out military action against Venezuela, and China has made a statement.
On November 19, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, presided over a routine press conference. A journalist asked about reports that US Secretary of Defense Esper announced the launch of the "Southern Spear" operation aimed at clearing drug terrorists in the Western Hemisphere. The US State Department recently announced that the so-called "Maduro-led" Sun Drug Cartel would be designated as a "foreign terrorist organization," effective on the 24th of this month. The US also mentioned the possibility of military action against Venezuela. How does China comment on this? Mao Ning stated that China firmly supports the Declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace issued by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States in 2014, opposes any actions that violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, infringe on the sovereignty and security of other countries, and opposes external forces interfering in the internal affairs of Venezuela under any pretext. China hopes that the US will carry out normal law enforcement and judicial cooperation through bilateral and multilateral legal frameworks and do more things conducive to peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean region.
