Cold wave accompanied by strong winds is coming, and multiple departments in Beijing are actively responding.
Affected by strong cold air, Beijing has encountered cold wave weather since November 16, with a sudden drop in temperature and strong winds. The meteorological, heating, and energy supply departments have responded quickly to fully cope with the cold weather test. In response to this weather process, the Beijing Meteorological Observatory has issued a yellow warning signal for strong winds and a blue warning signal for cold wave. During the day on the 16th, most areas of Beijing experienced gusts of 7 to 8 on the Beaufort scale. At the same time, due to the influence of strong cold air, it is expected that from the 16th to the 17th, most areas of Beijing will experience cold wave weather, with a decrease in average daily temperature of 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, and a minimum temperature decrease of 6 to 8 degrees Celsius. On the nights of the 16th and 17th, the lowest temperature in the plains will drop to around minus 3 degrees Celsius, while in other areas it will drop to between minus 6 and minus 4 degrees Celsius. The public is advised to pay attention to windproofing, keep warm, practice fire safety, stay away from temporary structures when going out, and be mindful of falling objects from high altitudes. Beijing officially started its heating supply on November 15. According to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Management, in response to the current temperature drop, the first "heating dispatch order" of this heating season has been issued. During the period of severe temperature drop, relevant departments will take measures to preheat in advance, strengthen proactive services, address concerns before complaints, focus on special groups, actively conduct temperature measurements in households, enhance inspection and maintenance, and promptly eliminate potential issues. In addition, all heating units have increased their standby duties to ensure prompt reporting and efficient handling of emergencies. The Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Management advises that during the heating period, if there are issues such as insufficient room temperature or leaks at home, residents can directly call the service hotline of the residential heating unit or heating manager for repairs. If the heating unit does not address the issue promptly, complaints can be made by calling the city or district heating service supervision hotline. In the face of the current cold wave weather, Beijing Gas Group has strengthened the balance between supply and demand of natural gas resources, through precise prediction of gas load, scientific scheduling of multiple gas sources, real-time monitoring of pipeline operations, strengthening supply-demand coordination and emergency support, to ensure stable and reliable natural gas supply throughout the city and to safeguard the safety and smooth operation of the city's energy lifeline. The Beijing Municipal Health Commission advises that during the period of strong winds and temperature drop, one can follow the "onion-layer dressing" method. Choose breathable and sweat-absorbing cotton clothing as the inner layer, wear warm wool or fleece sweaters as the middle layer, and wear windproof and waterproof outerwear as the outer layer. This way, you can adjust your clothing based on temperature variations indoors and outdoors, and avoid sweating and then getting cold from wearing thick clothing alone. Additionally, the head, neck, waist, and ankles are "cold-sensitive areas" that require extra attention to staying warm. (Xinhua News)
