The second phase of the Jingjiang River renovation project is about to be completed, and the waterway "intestinal obstruction" will be further cleared.
The Yangtze River is the largest river in China and serves as a golden waterway for inland navigation that runs through the eastern, central, and western parts of the country. The main channel of the Yangtze River is over 2,800 kilometers long, and its freight volume has ranked first in the world for many years. The "Outline of the Development Plan for the Yangtze River Economic Belt" proposes to enhance the functions of the golden waterway. The second phase of the renovation project for the Jingjiang River section in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River will begin at the end of September 2024, with the main construction work set to be completed by the end of this year. After the completion of the project, the navigation capacity of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River golden waterway will be significantly improved, with a 4.5-meter deep channel reaching Yichang and extending to Chongqing. Ships of up to 5,000 tons will be able to travel directly to Chongqing all year round through the Jingjiang section of the Yangtze River.
