Leaders from multiple countries are calling for accelerated action to address the climate crisis.
Leaders from multiple countries and international organizations called for unity and accelerated action in addressing the climate crisis during the Belm Climate Summit, which opened on the 6th. Hosted by Brazil, the two-day summit aims to provide a "political direction" for the upcoming COP30 negotiations of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The main topics of the summit include climate and nature, energy transition, the 10th anniversary evaluation of the Paris Agreement, nationally determined contributions, and climate financing. UN Secretary-General Guterres pointed out during the summit that he hopes COP30 will be a turning point for a more effective fight against the climate crisis. He stated that only through faster and more effective action, particularly from wealthier countries, can the current situation be reversed.
