According to reports, SoftBank once considered acquiring American chip manufacturer Marvell Technologies with the idea of merging it with its subsidiary, Arm.
According to informed sources, SoftBank Group earlier this year explored the possibility of acquiring the American chip manufacturer Marvell Technology Inc., which was originally expected to become the largest deal in the history of the semiconductor industry. Informed sources revealed that the Japanese conglomerate's billionaire founder Masayoshi Son has been intermittently considering Marvell as a potential acquisition target for years. This is part of his bet on benefiting from the artificial intelligence craze in the hardware business. According to informed sources, SoftBank made an approach to Marvell a few months ago, but the two parties were unable to reach agreement on specific terms. Informed sources said that SoftBank's idea for Marvell was to merge it with Arm Holdings Plc, a British chip design company owned by SoftBank. Some informed sources indicated that although Marvell and SoftBank are not currently engaged in active negotiations for a deal, they could still potentially rekindle cooperation in the future. Informed sources also revealed that Masayoshi Son regularly conducts inspections of dozens of potential transactions without taking any action.
