Zheng Liwen assumes the position of Chairman of the Kuomintang in China.
The Kuomintang held its national congress in Taipei on the 1st, with Zheng Liwen assuming the position of party chairman. In her speech, Zheng Liwen stated that the Democratic Progressive Party controls the media to spread rumors and slander, creating division and hatred; they also use the judicial system as a tool for suppressing dissidents and political oppression, putting Taiwan's democracy in jeopardy. Taiwan's economic and trade advantages and core industries may be at risk of being hollowed out. Over the years, the Democratic Progressive Party has divided Taiwan, leading to internal strife and chaos. "Taiwan is running out of time. We cannot continue to decline, and we cannot allow hatred to spread any further." She stated that the Kuomintang must take on the mission of restoring order, promoting Taiwan's economic miracle, and maintaining peace across the strait. Following Zheng Liwen's nomination, the congress agreed for Lee Chien-lung, Chi Lin-lieh, Chang Jung-kung, and Hsiao Hsu-tsen to serve as vice-chairmen of the Kuomintang.
