Former Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank: The successful meeting between the leaders of China and the United States has relieved the world.
On October 31st, Jagdish Mehra, former Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank and senior researcher at the Yusof Ishak Institute of Southeast Asia Studies in Singapore, pointed out in an article that multilateralism is crucial for the Asia-Pacific region. The article emphasizes that the United States was once one of the main founders of the rules-based international trade system. If it continues to try to undermine this system, ignoring the huge benefits it has gained from it, the whole world will suffer losses and pay the price. Fortunately, the successful meeting of the leaders of the two major economies has relieved people's worries.
