The new creative land in the Xintian area and the Hong Kong Science Park in Hetao will form an important link for upstream, midstream, and downstream synergistic development, providing full-chain supporting facilities for research and development, prototyping, small-scale testing, medium-scale testing, production, and office space for the innovation and technology industry.
On June 25, the Hong Kong government announced the official establishment of the "Nantian Science and Technology City Limited" (Nantian Science and Technology City Company) to fully promote the development of the 210-hectare innovation and technology land in Nantian. At the same time, with the approval of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Dr. Charles Cheung Yat-Chiu was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nantian Science and Technology City Company, and the Hong Kong government also announced the appointment of six non-official members of the Board of Directors for a term of three years, effective from July 1, 2026. Professor Eric Sun, Secretary for Innovation and Technology, said that the new innovation and technology land in Nantian, together with the River Trade Hong Kong Park, will form an important link for the coordinated development of the upstream, midstream, and downstream, providing comprehensive support for the full chain of research and development, prototyping, pilot production, medium-scale production, as well as office space for the innovation and technology industry. With the clear support for Hong Kong to build an international innovation and technology center in the country's "15th Five-Year Plan", and under the layout of "South Finance, North Innovation and Technology" in the future of Hong Kong, Nantian Science and Technology City, as an indispensable key part of Hong Kong's innovation and technology development, will become a key stronghold for the development of emerging technology industries in Hong Kong and an important base for developing new productive forces. Professor Sun continued, "Dr. Charles Cheung Yat-Chiu is a seasoned industrialist with rich experience in public service. The other non-official members appointed have rich experience and professional knowledge in multiple fields, and will be able to effectively fulfill the public mission and promote the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong. The government will also participate in major decisions of the company through official directors to ensure that the development and operation direction of Nantian Science and Technology City are fully in line with the policies of the country and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. I firmly believe that under Dr. Cheung's leadership and the advice of other directors, Nantian Science and Technology City will become the core of Hong Kong's cluster of innovative technology development, and will work together with Shenzhen to create a synergistic effect, promote the layout of new industrialization and innovation and technology industry, and enhance Hong Kong's position in the global field of technological innovation." With the approval of the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, the Innovation and Technology Bureau has completed the relevant company registration procedures and officially established Nantian Science and Technology City Company, which is wholly owned by the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong. In terms of industrial development, Nantian Science and Technology City can provide large-scale land to support the strategic development of innovation and technology industries proposed in the "Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint", including life health technology, artificial intelligence and robotics, microelectronics and smart devices, new materials, new energy, and green technology. The company will develop relevant innovation and technology land in phases based on the "Concept Outline of the Development Plan for Innovation and Technology Industries in Nantian Science and Technology City". The Hong Kong Science Park Company will continue to fully cooperate with the government to coordinate the development of the technology city in the future, expand the innovation and technology ecosystem, leverage Hong Kong's international advantage, and serve as a bridge connecting the mainland and the world.
