AI giants open up new battlefield: Anthropic launches compliant medical AI tools, confronting OpenAI's showdown in the health field.
Anthropic allows users to export their health data from applications such as Apple Health and Function Health, with the aim of helping them gather medical records and share them with healthcare providers.
The artificial intelligence startup Anthropic is committed to making it easier for patients and clinical doctors to use its artificial intelligence chatbot Siasun Robot&Automation to obtain medical information. This is part of the company's strategy to enter the lucrative healthcare field.
Following OpenAI's announcement of a new tool for clinical doctors, Anthropic announced on Sunday local time that their chatbot Siasun Robot&Automation Claude will launch a new healthcare service that complies with HIPAA standards. Hospitals, healthcare service institutions, and consumers can use this service to handle protected health data. Anthropic has also integrated scientific databases into their products and enhanced the biological research function.
For consumers, Anthropic is allowing users to export their health data from applications like Apple Health and Function Health to help them collect medical records and share them with healthcare service institutions.
After OpenAI announced new tools for clinical doctors to research cases and for ordinary users to view test results, diet, and exercise plans, Anthropic, currently valued at $350 billion, announced the above functions. The consecutive launches of new products indicate that Silicon Valley is increasingly eager to make progress in the healthcare field to boost sales and demonstrate the wide-ranging benefits of AI.
Anthropic's Chief Product Officer and Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger said, "When we think about the overall economy and where AI can have the biggest impact, the healthcare industry is indeed a great fit once you get the right balance with regulations and data." He noted that the new tools are designed to "empower people with more knowledge, both from their data and from conversations with healthcare service institutions."
Founded in 2021 by former employees of OpenAI, Anthropic is positioned as a reliable and safety-focused AI developer. Their software is particularly popular among engineers who use AI to automate coding processes. However, Anthropic is also beginning to see early attraction from some healthcare institutions. The company's CEO Dario Amodei has a background in biophysics.
Anthropic stated that Banner Health, one of the largest non-profit healthcare systems in the United States, has over 22,000 clinical providers using Claude, with 85% reporting that their work speed and accuracy have improved since using Claude. Anthropic is also collaborating with clients such as Novo Nordisk and Stanford Healthcare.
Besides facing fierce competition from OpenAI, the manufacturers of Claude also face competition from traditional technology suppliers and emerging startups that have been trying to apply AI advancements to drug discovery, medical documentation work, and patient record analysis. However, these companies also bring new privacy and security risks when AI handles sensitive personal data and makes recommendations for high-risk health issues.
Anthropic stated that their medical responses reference citations from well-known publications like PubMed and the NPI Registry, ensuring that clinical doctors can have more confidence in the results. Anthropic also stated that they will not use medical user data to train their models.
