Macau's comprehensive consumer price index in August rose by 0.27% year-on-year.
According to data from the Statistics and Census Bureau of Macao, the comprehensive consumer price index in August 2025 increased by 0.27% year-on-year and by 0.11% month-on-month.
According to the data from the Statistics and Census Service of Macao, the Composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August 2025 increased by 0.27% year-on-year and 0.11% month-on-month. Over the past twelve months leading up to August of this year, the average CPI rose by 0.25% compared to the same period a year ago (from September 2023 to August 2024).
Compared to the same month last year, the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which are closely watched, increased by 0.44%, mainly driven by dining out and take-out charges, as well as the increased rent of housing, leading to a 0.33% rise in the housing and fuel category. Among the major categories, Recreation, Sports, and Culture (+2.45%) saw a more significant year-on-year increase. On the other hand, prices in the categories of Information and Communication (-3.00%) and Clothing and Footwear (-2.09%) experienced a decline. The CPI for category A and category B increased by 0.20% and 0.34% respectively year-on-year.
Compared to July, the Composite CPI in August increased by 0.11%. The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 0.05%, mainly due to the increase in vegetable prices and dining out and take-out charges, while the decrease in fruit prices partially offset the increase; the increase in airfare drove up the Transport category (+0.87%). On the other hand, the Clothing and Footwear category (-0.47%) and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (including personal care, insurance, and jewelry and watches, etc., -0.11%) saw a decrease in prices month-on-month. The CPI for category A and category B increased by 0.09% and 0.12% respectively month-on-month.
Over the past twelve months leading up to August of this year, the average CPI increased by 0.25% compared to the same period a year ago. Among the major categories, Miscellaneous Goods and Services (+2.20%), Recreation, Sports, and Culture (+1.38%), and Medical Care (+1.02%) recorded the largest increases, while Transport (-2.57%) and Information and Communication (-2.09%) saw a decline in prices. The CPI for category A and category B increased by 0.21% and 0.27% respectively.
The average CPI for the first eight months of this year increased by 0.19% year-on-year, with the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages category rising by 0.46%. The CPI for category A and category B increased by 0.14% and 0.22% respectively.
