On November 5 local time, Israeli President Herzog announced that he will officially authorize a member of parliament on the 8th to form a new government. Herzog made the above decision in a media statement issued that evening after concluding rounds of consultations with representatives of all elected parties in the 26th Knesset. The statement said that a total of 67 lawmakers recommended that Yesh Atid leader Eisenkot form the government, while a total of 46 lawmakers recommended that incumbent Prime Minister and Likud leader Netanyahu form the government. Herzog pointed out that although the recommendation numbers are relatively clear, due to mutual opposition between and within the various political camps, it is still not entirely clear who can ultimately succeed in forming a government. He said that next he will hold separate direct talks with some party leaders and make every effort to promote the establishment of a stable new government.
