Marvell Technology (MRVL.O) has reached an agreement to acquire data center optical equipment maker Lumentum Holdings at an enterprise value of $115 billion, one of the largest deals in tech industry history, reflecting companies' race to seize the opportunities presented by the AI boom. According to a joint statement, the all-stock transaction will leave Marvell shareholders owning 67% of the combined company. Bloomberg had previously reported that the two Silicon Valley companies were nearing the mega-deal. Data shows that by equity value, this would be the largest M&A deal of the year and the largest ever in the global tech industry, excluding the SpaceX-xAI merger. The deal illustrates how the AI boom is driving M&A activity across nearly all major industries and regions, involving chipmakers, specialized technology suppliers, data center operators, and electric utility companies.
