National Energy Administration: Coal-fired power generation and thermal coal consumption continued to decline in the third quarter; coal inventories are generally sufficient to ensure supply through the winter peak.
Zhitong Finance APP has learned that according to the National Energy Administration, in the third quarter of 2026, China's coal-fired power generation and its share declined year on year, and new progress was made in the low-carbon energy transition. As recent measures to increase coal production and ensure supply have been implemented at a faster pace, coal supply has steadily recovered. At the same time, coal consumption has remained relatively stable, the supply-demand gap has further narrowed, and coupled with thermal coal inventories remaining within a safe and reasonable range, this provides a solid foundation for ensuring supply during the winter peak period.
