Uber, Amazon sue to block New York City delivery worker deactivation law
Uber Technologies Inc., Amazon, and Instacart filed a federal lawsuit, arguing that a New York City law barring these companies from deactivating delivery workers is unconstitutional. The companies asked the court to block the regulation from taking effect; the law is set to go into effect in January next year. The companies said the regulation would "cause immediate and irreparable harm to app-based companies." The law requires delivery services to establish just cause or demonstrate a genuine economic reason before deactivating contracted delivery workers; the companies said this would force them to disclose sensitive information and compel them to retain or reinstate delivery workers' accounts.
