Broadcom (AVGO.O) and Anthropic have finalized a $63 billion debt deal to finance artificial intelligence infrastructure. The chipmaker's CEO has spent nearly two months trying to get banks to commit more than $40 billion to what would be the largest AI debt deal ever. The deal is intended to allow Anthropic to lease custom chips that Broadcom is co-developing with Google. Although Anthropic is the main beneficiary of the deal, the startup still needs help from its larger business partner to raise the funds. Anthropic and Broadcom are trying to complete the deal ahead of Anthropic's highly anticipated IPO filing. Broadcom, as Anthropic's chip supplier, is at the center of the action. With its superior credit rating, Broadcom has agreed to provide some financial guarantees to give banks more confidence in the enormous risk of more than $40 billion in loans. But people familiar with the matter said that in recent weeks, some banks have become increasingly anxious about participating in the deal, code-named "Project Polaris."
