XPeng responds to vehicle being totaled in crash with airbags not deploying
According to the Nanjing Morning Post, on October 15, Mr. Liu was driving an XPeng X9 when he hit a curb, after which the vehicle lost control and successively struck roadside trees and a utility pole. The vehicle then rolled over, and its front end was smashed beyond recognition. Fortunately, there were no casualties. After inspection, the insurance company determined that the vehicle was severely damaged and no longer worth repairing, and recommended scrapping it directly. On the 26th, XPeng Motors responded: "The customer's vehicle was involved in a collision on October 15, and there were no casualties in the car. Analysis of backend data and driving videos shows that the vehicle was in manual driving mode at the time of the collision, and the driver continuously pressed the accelerator pedal before the collision. To avoid rear-ending the truck ahead, the driver sharply turned the steering wheel to take emergency evasive action, which led to the collision. This accident did not meet the triggering conditions of the vehicle's airbag crash sensors. In response to the customer's questions, our company can commission the airbag supplier to conduct airbag data testing and issue a report. If the customer does not accept this, they may apply for a third-party judicial appraisal, and our company will cooperate in the follow-up work."
