Memory price surge chills PC market as global shipments plunge 21% in Q3
Driven by the growth in artificial intelligence demand, memory prices have risen sharply recently, leading to a significant decline in PC demand. According to data released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, global PC shipments in the third quarter of this year were 57 million units, down 21% from the same period last year and down 13.8% from the previous quarter. According to Counterpoint's analysis, despite demand for replacing old devices and migrating to the new version of the Windows operating system, consumers still postponed their personal computer purchase plans, causing overall shipments to drop sharply. In terms of vendor performance, Lenovo's shipments were 15 million units, down 23% from the same period last year, but the company maintained its market-leading position with a 26.3% market share. HP ranked second in market share, with shipments of 10.3 million units, down 31% from the previous year.
