Zhitong Finance APP has learned that the Hong Kong SAR Government Census and Statistics Department announced on October 22 the Consumer Price Index for September 2026. According to the Composite Consumer Price Index, overall consumer prices in September 2026 rose by 1.9% compared with the same month a year earlier, higher than the corresponding increase in August 2026 (1.7%). Netting out the effects of all the Government's one-off relief measures, the year-on-year increase in the Composite Consumer Price Index in September 2026 (i.e., the underlying inflation rate) was 2.1%, also higher than that in August 2026 (1.9%). The larger year-on-year increase in September 2026 was mainly due to faster increases in transport fares to and from Hong Kong and package tour expenses.
