Citadel founder Ken Griffin said that further tax cuts last year were a mistake made by Republicans in the U.S. Congress and President Donald Trump. Speaking in an interview at the Global Markets Future Conference in New York on Tuesday, Griffin said the U.S. government spent a lot of money during the pandemic, and "we don't have the fiscal space to extend the tax cuts." He noted that U.S. debt has surpassed $40 trillion. Griffin said Republicans have had a bigger problem with tax cuts over the past two years than with increased spending. Griffin is a Republican donor whose business empire includes hedge fund Citadel and market maker Citadel Securities. He said the solution is to "get the economy growing strongly," while also getting Europeans to drive economic growth. "A tariff war with Europe is a disaster," Griffin said.
