NVIDIA (NVDA.O) announced that, using 8,192 GPUs on Germany's JUPITER supercomputer, it successfully simulated a 104-qubit fault-tolerant quantum computing system and validated a technique called "magic state cultivation." NVIDIA said the technique is expected to reduce the number of physical qubits required to achieve fault-tolerant quantum computing by about 90%, and the simulation also shortened computations that would originally have taken weeks to a few days. The advance helps researchers test and optimize quantum computer designs in advance, but technical challenges remain before practical application.
