Xinjiang's snow and glacier meltwater nurtures salmon, with 130,000 fish currently being farmed and an estimated output value exceeding 25 million yuan.
Salmon from Shimen Reservoir in Nantun Town, Tiemenguan City, Xinjiang, are being harvested and brought to market one after another. Located in the mountain valley area on the northern slope of the Kunlun Mountains, the site uses snowmelt water to develop salmon farming and has successfully moved from the trial breeding stage to large-scale mass production, with 130,000 fish currently being raised. The water source here is formed by the convergence of snow and ice meltwater from the Kunlun Mountains. The water temperature remains stable below 18C year-round, and the water is clear and cold. Testing has shown that it meets the standard for direct drinking. At present, this batch of salmon has an average weight of 2 to 3 kilograms. Calculated at the conventional price of 80 yuan per kilogram, the output value of 130,000 fish is expected to exceed 25 million yuan, turning cold-water fish into a "hot resource."
