According to a report by the German business newspaper Handelsblatt, citing people familiar with the matter, the German federal government plans to launch large-scale cooperation with U.S. chip designer Nvidia to promote the widespread application of artificial intelligence in industry and catch up in the global race for AI technology. The plan has two goals: first, to lay the foundation for the application of physical AI, a technology that can be used to train robots and self-driving cars, among other things; and second, to train high-performance industrial AI models with international competitiveness. It is reported that the German federal government is willing to invest hundreds of millions of euros to advance the project, with the funds to be used for procuring computing power and training new AI models. Nvidia is also expected to provide support, including sending engineers to participate in the project. Handelsblatt has learned that about 12 German companies plan to take part in the cooperation, including Siemens, Audi, and the AI company Black Forest Labs.
