A German airport was temporarily shut down due to a "hijacking alert," and the involved passenger plane landed safely.
An airport in the southern German city of Nuremberg suspended takeoffs and landings on the 13th after a passenger plane issued a hijacking alert, with police deploying special forces and temporarily sealing off the airport. The involved passenger plane ultimately landed safely. At noon that day, a passenger plane flying from Corfu, Greece, to Nuremberg transmitted code "7500," which indicates that the aircraft had been hijacked. The pilot was temporarily unable to establish radio contact with the ground. The passenger plane involved belongs to the Turkish airline Corendon Airlines, with flight number XR456. A spokesperson for the Nuremberg police stated that a radio equipment malfunction may be one of the causes of the incident. An on-site inspection found no danger, and both the passengers and the pilot on board were safe and sound. Investigators have not yet released further details. A spokesperson for Nuremberg Airport stated that after the incident, fighter jets were dispatched in response and have now returned to base.
