New White House press secretary holds first press briefing

Today, new White House Press Secretary Katie Zakaria held her first press briefing. The position of White House press secretary had remained vacant since Leavitt's departure at the end of August. U.S. President Trump announced on social media on October 9 local time that he had appointed conservative commentator Zakaria to succeed Leavitt. Zakaria was previously a senior communications adviser for Truth Social, a website under Trump Media & Technology Group, and also served as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security and deputy assistant secretary for public affairs.
