Apple introduced a new device called HomeView. This $299 smart display will be Apple's core product for challenging Amazon and Google and entering the smart home market. HomeView will go on sale on November 13, is operated mainly through hands-free voice commands, and uses facial recognition technology to provide a personalized software experience for each family member. The device has no physical buttons, but it features a 7-inch touchscreen with a grid layout of apps that iPhone and iPad users will find very familiar. Apple positions HomeView as the ideal platform for showcasing the capabilities of the Siri AI assistant. With a built-in camera, the device can instantly recognize up to six different users and provide personalized responses, whether assisting with cooking, making video calls with friends and family, or playing music through its speakers. To rapidly expand its smart home market presence, Apple is partnering with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric to launch a series of "Apple Home Collection" accessories, including indoor and outdoor cameras, video doorbells, thermostats, and smart locks. Apple participated in the co-development of this hardware, and the products will begin shipping in December, priced between $199 and $399.
