Microsoft advances AI architecture reform, reorganizes Azure cloud business unit.
Azure cloud business chief Scott Guthrie told employees on Monday that Microsoft is restructuring the management of its Azure cloud business, consolidating internal divisions and realigning around artificial intelligence. As part of the reorganization, Arun Ulag, who previously oversaw Azure database products, will also take charge of the executive teams for Azure Core and Azure Engineering. Azure Core provides computing resources to customers such as OpenAI. Scott Guthrie informed employees that the executives under his purview include Girish Bablani, Billy Anders, Douglas Phillips, and Mark Russinovich. People familiar with the reorganization said that Charlie Bell, who stepped down as head of Microsoft's security business earlier this year and transitioned to an advisory role, now also reports to Arun Ulag. The personnel changes come after a series of executive departures at Microsoft this year, including Azure AI head Eric Boyd, who left this spring to become head of infrastructure at Anthropic.
