Musk believes his companies will likely "figure out how to make chips better than anyone else" because of their expertise in building custom equipment. Speaking to customers and investors gathered outside Tesla's Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, Musk said that while he currently has "no idea how to make microchips, we'll figure it out." Musk appeared via livestream at the X Takeover event on Saturday and noted that when touring competitors' facilities, he didn't see much custom equipment, whereas his companies have extensive experience building such equipment, which enables them to improve manufacturing processes.
