ANZ analysts said in a research report that rising energy prices and an overnight selloff in the tech-heavy Nasdaq market both weighed on investors' risk appetite. However, supported by supply constraints, copper prices are still hovering near record highs. The analysts noted that workers at Chile's Centinela copper mine are on strike, exacerbating supply-side restrictions. The analysts also said that Chinese traders returning to the market after a week-long holiday have a relatively optimistic sentiment, which also provided some support for copper prices. ICE data showed that the London Metal Exchange (LME) three-month copper futures rose 1.1% to $14,461.50 per ton.
