Hong Kong stock financial reports see a surge in "disclaimer of opinion" cases! Hong Kong SFC, AFRC, and HKEX jointly speak out: do not rule out tightening suspension rules.
On October 8, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, the Hong Kong Accounting and Financial Reporting Council, and The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited issued a joint statement to address regulatory concerns arising from the growing number of cases in which listed issuers' financial statements received a "disclaimer of opinion" from auditors solely due to going concern issues. A "disclaimer of opinion" means that the auditor has not expressed an audit opinion on the listed issuer's financial statements, thereby raising doubts about the reliability of the relevant statements. The joint statement emphasized: "Addressing these issues is a shared responsibility of all parties in the financial reporting ecosystem."
