Two major Japanese securities firms expect the Japanese stock market rally to continue well into 2027, but a potential reversal in artificial intelligence investment could emerge as the biggest potential threat. "The market, share prices and corporate earnings are all being strongly driven by AI investment," Nomura CEO Kentaro Okuda said on Thursday. "If market sentiment toward AI shifts and this trend begins to reverse, I think this could pose a significant risk." Daiwa Securities CEO Akihiko Ogino expressed a similar view during the same panel discussion. Both executives predicted that the Nikkei 225 index would reach 80,000 points, but their forecasts for the specific path differed: Ogino expects the target to be achieved this year, while Okuda expects the index to reach about 75,000 points by the end of the year and to break through 80,000 points by the end of 2027.
