Singapore's MAS Issues Regulatory Requirements for AI Application in the Financial Industry
The Monetary Authority of Singapore has issued a set of artificial intelligence risk management guidelines to support the financial industry in adopting AI technology. The guidelines set out regulatory expectations for AI applications and apply to all financial institutions and all types of AI technology. MAS's core requirements are: financial institutions should identify and strengthen oversight of AI risks, while managing the risks arising from the use of third-party AI. MAS plans to consult the financial industry further in 2027 on supplementary guidelines for agentic AI. The guidelines will take effect on October 7, 2027. Financial institutions are required to meet the regulatory requirements of Sections 3 to 4 by October 7, 2027, and to implement Sections 5 and 6 by October 7, 2028.
