The US side claimed that Starbucks opening stores in Xinjiang is "morally bankrupt." The Foreign Ministry responded.
On October 3, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun answered a question from a reporter. The reporter noted that the U.S. House Select Committee on China accused Starbucks' decision to open stores in China's Xinjiang of being "morally bankrupt" and claimed that the Chinese government is committing "genocide" against Uyghurs. What is the Foreign Ministry's comment? Guo Jiakun said the so-called "genocide" in Xinjiang is an outright lie. The relevant U.S. institution habitually fabricates claims out of thin air and attacks and smears China for political purposes, and has no credibility at all. Xinjiang now enjoys social stability, economic development, ethnic unity and religious harmony. China will continue to expand high-standard opening up and provide more opportunities for foreign businesses to invest and operate in China.
