U.S. President Trump said he did not "jump the gun" in announcing South Korea's investment in the Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. Previously, Trump announced that South Korea would invest $200 billion in U.S. projects, including the $54 billion Alaska LNG project, but South Korean officials later said the project would only move forward if it proved to be economically viable. In response, Trump said: "I didn't jump the gun. They were there, and people represented them. If they don't want to do it, that's fine, I'll just charge them more." Trump said the U.S.-South Korea trade agreement includes projects such as the Alaska LNG pipeline, and said South Korea's investment plan also includes eight large nuclear power plants and a 6-gigawatt Texas power plant. Previously, media reports said the Alaska LNG project has been planned for many years, but it still lacks binding investment commitments.
