UN Special Envoy for Yemen Expresses Concern Over Escalation of Fighting in Taiz

UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg urged the Houthi armed group on October 1 to halt its military offensive in the southwestern province of Taiz. In a statement posted on a social media platform that day, Grundberg said, "I am concerned about the developments in Taiz, where fighting has significantly escalated," noting that the Houthi military operations pose serious risks to civilians. Grundberg said he had received "deeply disturbing reports of casualties, damage to infrastructure and road closures," which have restricted the movement of people fleeing war-affected areas. He also said he is in close contact with both the Yemeni government and the Houthi armed group to discuss urgent measures to control the situation and ensure the free movement of civilians.
