US Treasury yields breaking 5% trigger transatlantic resonance. Is Europe also raising a "debt alarm"?
The continued rise in U.S. Treasury risk premiums is triggering resonance across the Atlantic. As of press time, the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield had risen to 5.247%, up about 49 basis points over the past month. Meanwhile, yields across maturities in major European government bond markets also climbed sharply in a passive move, with the German 10-year government bond yield rising to 3.63%, hitting a new high since 2009; the French 10-year government bond yield touched 4.77% on September 28, approaching its historic peak since 2008.
