China Iron and Steel Association: In August, total energy consumption of member enterprises fell 5.17% year-on-year, while comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel rose 0.96% year-on-year.
In August 2026, the total energy consumption of member enterprises decreased by 5.17% year-on-year; comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel increased by 0.96% year-on-year; comparable energy consumption per ton of steel increased by 2.67% year-on-year; electricity consumption per ton of steel decreased by 0.12% year-on-year. Total electricity consumption of member enterprises decreased by 10.96% year-on-year. Total self-generated electricity decreased by 5.39% year-on-year; the self-generation ratio was 68.53%, up 1.55 percentage points year-on-year. Clean energy power generation increased by 18.29% year-on-year. Among this, wind power generation increased by 0.45% year-on-year; photovoltaic power generation increased by 25.86% year-on-year. Water consumption of member enterprises increased by 40.5188 million cubic meters year-on-year, up 0.48% year-on-year. Among this: water intake increased by 85,400 cubic meters compared with the same period last year, up 0.06% year-on-year; reuse increased by 40.4432 million cubic meters compared with the same period last year, up 0.48% year-on-year. The water reuse rate was 98.40%, up 0.01 percentage points year-on-year; water intake per ton of steel was 2.67 cubic meters/ton, up 6.45% year-on-year. Wastewater discharge of member enterprises increased by 8.46% year-on-year, and ammonia nitrogen emissions in wastewater increased by 14.67% year-on-year; chemical oxygen demand, volatile phenols, total cyanide, suspended solids, and petroleum-based pollutants decreased by 0.60%, 37.60%, 42.37%, 1.94%, and 23.15% year-on-year, respectively. Total waste gas emissions of member enterprises decreased by 2.77% year-on-year, and sulfur dioxide, particulate matter, and nitrogen oxide emissions in waste gas decreased by 12.71%, 15.05%, and 7.84% year-on-year, respectively. In terms of comprehensive utilization of solid waste, the utilization rates of steel slag, blast furnace slag, and iron-bearing dust and sludge all remained above 99%. In terms of combustible gas utilization, the utilization rates of blast furnace gas, converter gas, and coke oven gas remained above 97%.
