Vucic resigns as President of Serbia, prepares to run for the next government's Prime Minister

Serbian President Vucic submitted his resignation on the 27th, resigning from the office of president. According to a previously announced plan, he will run for prime minister in the next government. Under Serbia's constitution and the Law on the President, the president submits a written resignation to the speaker of the National Assembly. Once the resignation is delivered to the National Assembly, the president's term ends that same day, without requiring approval by the National Assembly or the speaker. After the president resigns, the speaker of the National Assembly will assume the duties of the president for no more than three months, and must announce a presidential election within those three months.
