Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic's AI safety organizations are gradually taking shape.

According to people familiar with the matter, Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic are advancing a plan to establish a new standards body focused on AI safety on their own, without government regulation, hoping to officially launch it by the end of this year or early 2027. The people said the three companies initially plan to name the self-regulatory organization the "Frontier AI Standards Bureau." Some members of the working group had considered inviting several prominent figures to serve as chief executive. According to the people familiar with the matter, they have extended an offer to Sriram Krishnan to take on the role. Krishnan is a former venture capitalist who also served as a senior AI policy adviser in the Trump administration.
