Boeing (BA.N) has discovered a 737 MAX software fault that could cause the autopilot function to fail, raising concerns about potential safety risks during aircraft landings. Although the fault has been acknowledged by Boeing, it had not previously been publicly disclosed. The fault stems from a cockpit software update and may occur when crew members change an established flight path after a missed approach. Under certain circumstances, pilots may need to fly manually while losing some autopilot functions. Some industry insiders pointed out that this could place an additional burden on pilots, especially at a time when they are already busy, flying at low altitude, and may also have to deal with complex conditions such as severe weather.
