Citing a report on consultations between the Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Autonomous City and chip manufacturers, foreign media reported that SK Hynix has expressed a strong intention to secure as large a production site as possible, while Samsung Electronics emphasized the need to accelerate the pace of investment implementation. In response to the demands of the two companies, the integrated city plan gives priority to providing about 2.08 million square meters of immediately developable land within a national industrial park with a total area of 8.26 million square meters. The integrated city plans to sign a move-in agreement with SK Hynix in October and use that as an opportunity to launch comprehensive consultations on matters related to the investment implementation stage, involving development strategy, plant construction, and supporting infrastructure. The local authorities plan to continue talks with Samsung on October 6 through an on-site site selection inspection and high-level meetings.
